I am doing these rankings based on teams recent success and the quality of their wins. Beating opponents ranked in the top 25 helps, and road wins are valued more due to their difficulty to aquire. I am also using the quadrant system as part of my ranking decisons. People often confuse power rankings with the AP and coaches top 25 polls. These rankings are based on full body of work, although there is a correlation, the highly ranked teams do usually happen to be on hot streaks.
1: Auburn
Five straight blowout wins! Yea this team is no joke. Johni Broome is among the top players in the nation. As with Tennessee, we will see what this squad is made of come SEC play.
2: Tennessee
Undefeated through 12 games. A knock could be their relatively weak strenght of scedule, however they have taken care of business. We will see how legit Tennessee really is as the start of 2025 marks the start of SEC play.
3: Duke
The obvious sparkle on Duke’s resume is its win against Auburn. Add to that to a recent win at Louisville and a couple of blowout wins puts them a 3
4: Uconn
Racked up 6 straight wins against some great teams, most notibly against a formitable Gonzaga squad. Their win against Gonzaga and Baylor could age well.
5: Iowa State
A win against Colorado for the second time this year is very inpressive. Their 79-69 win in boulder showcased the teams resilency as they weathered the storm despite Colorado’s powerful second half run. Guard Keshon Gilbert is the real deal.
6: Florida
They are undefeated, but I give teams with more losses to good teams and more Q1 and Q2 wins the edge. I give this team props for taking care of business. A win at North Carolina is impressive.
7: Oregon
With only 1 loss against a good UCLA team who took down Gonzaga, the ducks are headed in the right direction with 3 straight wins in dominant fasion. That is enough to put them in the top 10
8: Oklahoma
Undefeated with wins mostly against lower level D1 programs, reminds you of a team dominating their conference like a Gonzaga or Houston in previous years. Going undefeated is no small feat though.
9: Texas A&M
7 straight wins including at Purdue and creighton. This is another great team from a historic SEC, although I feel this program flies under the radar year after year.
10: Mississipi State
At the 10 spot where other teams definitely belong I have another SEC team. Why this team has the edge over Kentucky and Alabama among others is their win at Memphis handily and against Pitt.
